Delta Air Lines Acquires 49 Per Cent Stake in Virgin Atlantic and Marks the Date with New Codeshare  24 June 2013 Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic Airways today detailed a codeshare agreement across 108 routes* that offers customers seamless connections to 66 destinations across North America and the U.K.  Today’s codeshare announcement coincides with Delta acquiring a 49 per cent stake in Sir Richard Branson’s airline - marking the next step towards a full joint venture between the two carriers. Virgin Atlantic will place its code on 91 Delta routes, including both trans-Atlantic and domestic U.S. routes. Delta will place its code on 17 Virgin Atlantic routes, including the recently launched Little Red domestic U.K. services connecting London to Manchester, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. South African Airways is one of the first six airlines in the world to achieve IATA Environmental Assessment Johannesburg, 09 June 2013. South African Airways (SAA) has become one of the first airlines in Africa and one of six in the world to achieve IATA (International Air Transport Association) Environmental Assessment Stage 1 status. The achievement comes after IATA embarked on the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA), a two-year initiative to develop and establish an environmental standard and environmental management system for over 240 IATA member airlines. The aim of the two-year initiative is to create a minimum and recommended standard for airlines in areas such as general recycling, on-board recycling, efficient flight and airport operations, limiting and reducing carbon emissions, general energy efficiency as well as environmentally conscious procurement procedures.
